May 2012 President's Message
Nancy Starner, CPS-OM

Administrative Professionals Week has just ended. We hosted a wonderful event on Wednesday, April 25. Sandi Singer, Robin Coleman, and the whole committee prepared an event that we will remember fondly. Personally I have received feedback from guests and vendors that they enjoyed the evening and were very glad they attended or participated. What a great feeling to know that we created a special night to celebrate administrative professionals. The committee learned new skills and made better friendships with the chapter members in the process. Please consider participating on the committee next year.
Pieri Levandofsky facilitated our April meeting at the Medina County University Center. We took away pointers and tips for creating better layouts and formatting brochures, pamphlets, and newsletters. Deborah Sukey, CAP-OM will facilitate our May meeting on “Bridging the Gap: Working with Supervisors Offsite.” We are utilizing the talents of our members and giving them the opportunity to hone their skills in front of an audience, which happens to be a group of peers. If you are skilled in a topic or area that you would like to share with our members, please let us know so we can include you in our program series for next year. The experience will instill confidence and will help you overcome those fears of speaking in front of people.
The Scholarship Committee will be announcing the winner of our $500 scholarship at the May meeting. We had four applicants and Mary Conway, CAP-OM; Betsy Lehky, CAP-OM; and Pieri Levandofsky examined the applications and determined the scholarship winner.
Last month the Nominating Committee presented us with the slate of officers for the 2012-2013 chapter year. Inside this newsletter is more detailed information on each of them. On May 8 we will vote and then they will be installed in June. I am very proud of the members who have stepped up to run and lead the Medina County Chapter. In addition, there are positions to be filled as chairs of our different committees. Think of this as an opportunity for leadership and development and take that leap to becoming more remarkable!
If you are planning to attend Ohio Division Annual Meeting in June, it is time to make your room reservations and register for the weekend. Sign up on the sheet at our next meeting so you can share a room and participate in the car pool to help with expenses. It is a rejuvenating weekend and a great way to find out more about IAAP and about our Ohio Division members.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Best Regards,
Nancy
